CCR Question #2 Draft

How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

Throughout my audience engagement research I learned a lot about how to appeal to your audience and how to grab their attention. One of the things I learned from researching the movie The Heat, was that appealing to peoples pathos made the audience laugh and feel sad at certain points throughout the film. This technique is great to use because it keeps your audience engaged and interested all throughout the film. Another technique I learned from researching the movie The Irishman, was that using foreshadowing throughout the film keeps the audience intrigued and more willing to watch the entire film.

After conducting my research on how films market their product, I have found out that social media outlets such as Facebook and YouTube were used to promote the film. Also, interviews with the main characters and directors help endorse the film; along with having billboards up all around the country to engage the viewers through visuals. To market our film, we plan to create a fan Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter page for our audience to follow along with and keep updated on events and dates. These pages will include dates of movie premieres, meet and greets with the actors, background information on the actors, and cliff hanging trailers to keep the viewers engaged. We will also utilize the use of interviewers on the main actors and the directors to answer questions the audience might have, and to give insight on how and why they chose to create this film. Additionally, my group will market our film through the use of our trailer in similar genre movies on YouTube, and we will have billboards all around the country to act as a visual aid for the viewers to look forward too. This marketing plan will be effective in reaching our target audience because most of the plan is online and uses social media in one way or another, so it will be easy accessible for teenage girls.

Instagram: To begin our marketing process for our film, we first created an Instagram page because it gets the attention of our main target audience of teenage girls. Instagram is used more by younger people and has over 1 billion active users, so it directly informs our target audience and grabs their interest.

Based on my distribution research from movies such as Pitch Perfect 3, 47 Meters Down and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 2, which all have similar genres as mine, I plan to distribute my film the traditional way. This includes having the film in the theaters for 90 days, then have it available for purchase on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and On Demand. Additionally, I would hire a sales agent to get the movie promoted, create an online following through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, and cut a thrilling trailer that would captivate the audience. The sales agent I hired would represent my film at markets and festivals, introduce my film to potential distributors, and sell my film to networks. My movie trailer would consist of incidental music and scenes from the first ten minutes of the film that establish the tone, characters, setting, genre and originality. These methods will allow us to target our main audience of teenagers and increase our profit as much as possible. This distribution plan would be effective in reaching our target audience because it uses technology and social media outlets to distribute, which is what teenage girls are most familiar with, so it will be easy for them to access.

Third Quarter Submission

For our quarter three submission we revised some parts of our film. We re-shot the beginning of our film to slow down the pace of the film. We also added new fonts and coloring in the beginning of our film for our names and opening title, to have special effects and make it more personal. Our original titles were red and had no effect, so this time we added a pop-in special effect for "Girl's Night" title to create a theme for the film. Additionally, we added incidental music at the end of our film to create suspense and mystery. All these revisions were made to add a sense of reality and more suspense throughout our film. Throughout this new submission I learned how to edit sound and put it in the film, how to add special effects to titles, and how to work with PremierePro at a higher level.

Audience Engagement Research-The Irishman

The film "The Irishman" appeals to all age groups, but mainly older men and younger women. This is a history movie, so it attracts an older crowd who experienced the same events as the characters in the movie did. Also, it captures the attention of younger women because they are featured throughout the film and they did not experience the same events as the older men did, so they are inclined to learn about the past. Our movie, "Girls Night", is a drama, mystery, suspense, and comedy film that targets teenage girls and men. "The Irishman" is a drama, mystery, and suspense film with use of intelligent humor throughout. The film "The Irishman", also uses foreshadowing throughout the film to keep the audience engaged and lines of dry humor to keep the audience laughing. Our target audiences are similar because teenagers go see movies with vulgar language and men go see movies about events they have experienced in their lifetime. "The Irishman...

Casting

Our main character for this film is a girl named Lily. In the story, she is the hostess of the sleepover and the driver of the car home. Lily is described as a very happy person who likes to adventure with friends. To play this role we chose a girl named Lily Sikorski because she is very outgoing, loud, and has a big personality. In this film she is the teenage girl who is scared by a man in a black hoodie. We knew that Lily had a very projective voice and does not get stage fright in front of the camera or crowds. She was the perfect fit, us the directors, had in mind for our protagonist. Our next character was Lizzy, Lily's friend. We wanted to make it seem realistic, so we chose actual real life friends of Lily's for the film. Lizzy was picked for this role because she is very social and is funny. Additionally, our next character, Annalise, is playing the role of Lily's friend. She was picked for this position because she is the quiet one of the group and looks out for u...
